# CALCULATE Tax, Tip, Discount & Markup: Using % of Increase & Decrease

This video lesson will provide key vocabulary terms to understand tax, tip, discounts, and markups.  Four practice problems with modeled solutions are included.  The example problems are relatable and easy to understand.  The solutions are explained well and thoroughly. Students will use proportional relationships to solve multi-step percent problems. Students will learn how to find tax, markups and markdowns, and tips.  Students will discover the relationship between these real-world examples and the percent of increase and percent of decrease.

This supports CCSS 6.RP.A.3.c: Find a percent of a quantity as a rate per 100 (e.g., 30% of a quantity means 30/100 times the quantity); solve problems involving finding the whole, given a part, and the percent. And 7.RP.A.3: Use proportional relationships to solve multistep ratio and percent problems. Examples: simple interest, tax, markups and markdowns, gratuities and commissions, fees, percent increase and decrease, percent error.

For Indiana, this standard is supported: 7.C.6: Use proportional relationships to solve ratio and percent problems with multiple operations (e.g. simple interest, tax, markups, markdowns, gratuities, conversions within and across measurement systems, and percent increase and decrease).
